Justin Finch-Fletchley is a fictional character from the Harry Potter Universe.

[edit] Background

Justin comes from what appears to be a quite intelligent Muggle family. He was already signed up for a very prestigious Muggle school when he got a letter from Hogwarts, suggesting that he should have been placed in Ravenclaw on arrival. However, he was placed in Hufflepuff.

[edit] History

Justin's mother was not very happy with her son having to attend a wizard school instead of the prestigious Muggle school Eton. Justin gives his mother Gilderoy Lockhart's books, which convinces her to be happy with her son's magical abilities.

He next meets Harry, Ron and Hermione in a Herbology lesson during the second year. He is very polite towards them, and tells them about how he was actually going to attend a prestigious Muggle school.

However, after the petrification of Mrs. Norris, Justin came to believe the rumour that Harry was the Heir of Salazar Slytherin, and started avoiding him. During the introduction of the dueling club, Draco Malfoy summoned a snake which Lockhart tried to make disappear by casting a spell on it. Lockhart's spell made it bump high into the air and land on the platform again, making the snake angry. The snake turned on Justin and was about to attack him when Harry tried to stop the snake by (unintentionally) talking to it in Parseltongue. The snake turned away from Justin, but Justin misunderstood the event and was now even more convinced that Harry was Slytherin's Heir, as he could also talk in Parseltongue.

When Justin himself was petrified, his friend Ernie MacMillan was more sure than ever that Harry was the heir, and hated Muggle Borns. It turned out that Justin had seen the basilisk through the ghost body of Nearly Headless Nick. When he was revived, he apologized to Harry about suspecting him. After that, they continued to be quite friendly towards each other.

This changed however, during the Triwizard Tournament in 1994. Justin, along with most other Hufflepuffs, accused Harry of entering just to take away Hufflepuff's rare chance to be proud of anything, due to Cedric Diggory, a Hufflepuff, being chosen as Hogwarts' champion. This was again proven to be a wrong accusation. He came on friendly terms with Harry again by joining Dumbledore's Army along with his friends from Hufflepuff.

During the Second Wizarding War, after Voldemort started controlling the Ministry, it is possible that Justin was put in Azkaban as he was a Muggle-born. He was not seen at the Battle of Hogwarts either. He was either killed before the battle or escaped from England before Voldemort took over.
