Timeframe
31st July, 1991 Harrys Birthday (Early Hours)
 Synopsis
At the stroke of midnight, the front door of the hut is pounded from its hinges and Hagrid forces his way into the interior. He introduces himself to Harry and the petrified Dursley family. Even though it is evident that Hagrids bark is worse than his bite, Vernon still pulls together uncharacteristic courage to accuse him of breaking and entering and even pulls a shotgun on him. Hagrid just laughs at this threat and breaks the barrel of the gun with apparent ease. He then simply reaches into a pocket, pulls out an example of the letter and finally passes it into the grateful hands of its rightful owner. Harry reads it and is amazed to discover that it is an admission letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. However, this opens up considerably more questions than it answers, and Hagrid is forced to explain to Harry all about the secret magical world. He also tells Harry the truth about how his parents died and the terrible reign of Lord Voldemort. Harry is outraged that the Dursleys kept the truth from him, and an argument ensues. It is only ended when Hagrid points a pink umbrella that he habitually carries at Dudley and attempts to transfigure him into a pig. The spell does not work properly, but Dudley is nevertheless left with a pig tail poking out from his rear end. The Dursleys then withdraw to another room in the hut, leaving Harry and Hagrid alone. Hagrid asks Harry to remain silent about his use of magic because he is legally not allowed to perform any due to an expulsion from Hogwarts some fifty years previous. He then answers some more of Harrys questions about magic before they both fall asleep.
