Yule Ball

The Yule Ball is a celebration held on Christmas Day during the occurrence of the Triwizard Tournament. It is held in the Great Hall of Hogwarts, and possibly sometimes somewhere in Beauxbatons and Durmstrang. The Yule Ball is open to fourth year students and older; students below their fourth year cannot attend unless someone in their fourth year, or higher, asks them to accompany them. It begins at eight o' clock at night and ends at midnight.

During the ball, students are required to wear formal attire or otherwise their dress robes. It is tradition that the three champions of the Triwizard Tournament open up the ball by entering the hall and dancing with their partners.

[edit] The Goblet of Fire

The Triwizard Tournament was hosted at Hogwarts for the first time in so many years, so typically the Yule Ball was held. The Great Hall was rearranged and bore barely any resemblance as to how it usually looked with the four House tables arranged on any other average day. Fourth year students and up were allowed to attend, and any students younger than the limit were allowed to go under the condition that they were asked to go by an older student, also fourth year or older.

Harry and Ron held off asking girls out to the ball and regretted it. They panicked and eventually lost clue of who to ask. Harry asked Cho Chang to go with him, but unfortunately for him, she had already been asked by Cedric Diggory; Ron was planning to go with Hermione, but she secretly accepted Viktor Krum's invitation, causing Ron to be very agitated. In the end, Harry asked the Patil twins, Parvati and Padma, if the two of them would go to the ball with he and Ron. They accepted; however, the ball was miserable for both sets and they barely enjoyed it. Neville originally intended to ask Hermione to the dance, but since she had already given her word to Krum, he asked Ginny, who was in her third year, instead.

At the ball were The Weird Sisters, a famous and well-liked wizard band, playing music.
