Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, or Nearly Headless Nick, is the house ghost of Gryffindor. His date of birth is unknown, but he celebrates his Death Day on October 31st. He is a noble man dressed in tunic and tights and usually will be wearing a plumed hat. As his nickname implies, his head is not fully connected. When he was alive, back in the fifteenth century, he was asked to straighten Lady Grieve's teeth, which didn't go as planned - he made her grow a tusk instead. Even though he promised he could fix the error, the death penalty was forced upon him through means of decapitation. The axe that was used was very blunt, so instead of one smooth cut, he was forced to endure forty-five consecutive blows until the executioner was too tired to go on and left him with a head that was still attracted, if only by half an inch of skin and sinew. Nick decided that he would stay on Earth as a ghost, and at times said that he regretted his decision.
