Each of the members could transform one way or another. Remus was a werewolf, while the other three was unregistered Animagi. They became Animagi in order to help Remus feel like he could fit in more they took nicknames that where closely linked to there transformations, the transformations they took where and the nicknames they had:

  • James - Stag - Prongs

The group during their last years, created the Marauders Map, this map is seen in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It was a map that showed where people was in Hogwarts once the incantation was spoken. The counter spell had to be said when you had finished otherwise anyone could read it. If you didn't say the right incantation, the map would insult you.

When the Marauders finished school they all joined the Order of the Phoenix to fight against the Dark Lord. While in the Order, one of their members was influenced by Voldemort, and he turned James, and his wife's location in to the Dark Lord. This member was Peter Pettigrew. When Sirius found out about this act he went to confront him, and Peter created an explosion, killing 12 muggles, and took his own finger off, in order to frame Sirius and get away.
