The Marauder's Map is a magical map that was invented by James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew (a quartet otherwise known as the "Marauders") during their student years at Hogwarts. This document reveals the entirety of the Hogwarts castle, including all of its individual rooms and hallways, secret passages, and the surrounding grounds. Represented by a single dot, the location of every person dwelling the grounds is also shown, as well as their movements through the castle.

To use the Marauder's Map, a wizard must tap the blank parchment with his or her wand and recite the words "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." To return the map to its blank state, it must again be tapped with a wand, but instead the user must say, "Mischief managed."
