James Potter

[edit] Background

1960-1981 James Potter, husband of Lily Potter was the father of Harry Potter before his death, murdered by Voldemort. They lived in Godric's Hollow at the time of his and Lily’s murder, concealed by the Fidilius Charm. Their location was given away by one of their best friends, and until book 3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, it was believed to be Sirius Black. James and Lily were both members of the Order of the Phoenix, and refused to join Lord Voldemort. This is what led to their death.

He went to Hogwarts, and, along with Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, formed the Marauders, creators of the Marauder's Map. He was the Marauder known as Prongs. He was an unregistered animagus, taking the form of a stag (leading to his nickname). He had a serious dislike for Severus Snape, likely because they both liked Lily Evans (later to become Lily Potter).

He looked a lot like Harry – messy black hair, with glasses. He was known for getting into trouble, along with Sirius, Remus and Peter. Also like Harry, James was in Gryffindor House, and was seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team.
