The only wizarding village in Britain is none other than Hogsmeade. It was founded over a thousand years ago, around the same time as Hogwarts. Hengist of Woodcroft was one to found it as he was fleeing from persecuting Muggles.
Since it is located down the road from Hogwarts, they have always shared a certain relationship. A couple Saturdays throughout the year, students are allowed to visit beginning in their third year. There are a couple teachers who visit more frequently however, including Hagrid and Dumbledore.
There are a number of shops located in Hogsmeade:
* Dervish & Banges * Gladrags Wizardwear * The Hog's Head Tavern * Hogsmeade Station * Honeydukes Sweetshop * Madam Puddifoot's * Post Office * Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop * The Shrieking Shack * The Three Broomsticks * Zonko's Joke Shop
There are also a number of secret passageways that lead from Hogwarts to Hogsmeade. We hear of 8 being known, but are only told about 5 since Filch keeps an eye out on 4 of them, including the one behind the statue of Gregory the Smarmy. The others include:
* Third-floor corridor to Honeydukes cellar * Whomping Willow to the Shrieking Shack * The Room of Requirement to the Hog's Head Inn * A secret passageway behind the mirror on the fourth floor
