Background

Hermione Granger is Harry Potter and Ron Weasley's best friend. She is extremely smart and got an O in all of her O.W.L's except for her Defense Against the Dark Arts O.W.L and has aced many exams in the past by more than 100%. Hermione Granger was brought up by muggles and is an only child.

Additional Information: She is slightly bossy and very studious. Her thirst for knowledge turns useful on many occasions as the three of them (Harry, Ron and Hermione) have to avoid different obstacles throughout their adventures. She's often teased by others because she always tends to know everything but that doesn't change anything in the way she acts. Hermione always gets top grades and is one of the most clever students Hogwarts ever had, which allowed her access to a Time Turner in her Third Year.

History

She is muggle-born. Her parents are dentists in the story. In the seventh book Hermione modified their memories. So Death Eaters couldn't find them. She was supposed to have a muggle sister but the sister never got into the stories. She goes to the Yule Ball in the 4th book with Victor Krum. In the 4 book she starts S.P.E.W. In the end Ron and Hermione get married and have two kids. Hermione and Ron also kiss in the same book.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Hermione Granger is first introduced to the readers in the first Harry Potter book as a hard working, polite and very clever person. We first hear of Hermione Granger when she knocks on Harry and Ron's compartment on the Hogwarts Express to ask if they have seen Neville Longbottom's toad, Trevor. As she walks in she sees Ron about to cast a spell on his rat and urges him to continue. Unfortunately the spell doesn't work and she then shows them some real magic by repairing Harry's glasses (only in the movie). As she leaves she advises them to put on their robes and tells Ron that he has some dirt on his nose.

Later on in the story, the new students are in the Great Hall being sorted and she is pretty worried about it. Of course she is placed in Gryffindor. When the feast begins she immediately starts talking to Percy Weasley about school work which represents what sort of character she is. The readers next read about Hermione in Chapter 9 overhearing a conversation between Harry, Ron and Draco Malfoy about having a 'Midnight Duel'. She is very angry that they are even considering this and tried to stop them from heading off to find Malfoy. Unluckily for her, the Fat Lady goes off for a midnight stroll to other portraits so she follows Harry and Ron. They all run into Neville Longbottom who has forgotten the password so he has to go along with the rest of the gang. After they work out that Malfoy set them up to get caught, they accidentally run into Fluffy the three headed dog on the third floor. Hermione is again extremely angry about this and warns them that they could have been killed,'or worse expelled'. In Chapter 10, Hermione is in grave danger. After hearing Ron teasing her about Charms lesson, she runs off to the girls toilets and stays there for the rest of the day. During the Halloween feast, Professor Quirrel bursts into the hall informing everyone that there is a troll in the dungeons. As the Prefects are leading their houses back to their dormitories, Harry and Ron sneak off to help Hermione. When they get there, the troll is trying to kill Hermione and making a huge mess. Fortunately, Harry and Ron manage to knock out the troll and Hermione then takes full responsibility for it when the teachers arrive at the scene. This is where the friendship between Harry, Ron and Hermione forms.

After their encounter with Fluffy, Hermione helps Harry and Ron find out about what the dog is guarding. They find out about Nicholas Flamel and start searching for him in the library. In Chapter 14, Hermione and the others meet Hagrid's new pet dragon, Norbert. However Hagrid realises that he can't keep it as it is illegal and Draco Malfoy sees it through the window. Hermione helps Harry to deliver Norbert to a group of wizards, including Ron's brother Charlie, who take him to Romania. Unfortunately they are caught out of bed and are given detention. Hermione and Harry serve this detention alongside Malfoy and Neville in the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid. In Chapter 16, after hearing that Hagrid told the stranger who gave him Norbert how to control Fluffy, Hermione, Ron and Harry decided that they had to go down the trapdoor and stop Snape from stealing the Philosopher's Stone. They use the invisibility cloak to sneak past Fluffy but are caught in a large plant called Devil's Snare which kills whoever it traps. However with Hermione on hand, she helps Harry and Ron out of the trap. She then helps to catch the key to the door in the next room before confronting the gigantic Wizard's Chess set. After Ron is injured, she goes with Harry through to the next room.(In the film, this is where Harry continues by himself to confront Quirrel and Voldemort). Hermione solves the riddle to drink the right potion to advance through the flames. Harry goes on and she goes back to send an owl to Dumbledore and to help Ron to the Hospital Wing. In the final chapter of the book after the ordeal with Voldemort and Quirrel has ended, she enjoys celebrating Gryffindor's House Cup victory before saying good bye to Harry and Ron and heading home for the holidays.

Harry Potter and The Chamber Of Secrets

Hermione returns to the Harry Potter series again along with Harry and Ron as they start their second year at Hogwarts. Hermione makes her first appearance in Chapter Four(Flourish and Blotts) when she joins the Weasleys as Hagrid helps Harry find them after his accidental trip to Knockturn Alley. Then in Chapter 6, J.K shows how much Hermione likes Gilderoy Lockhart when she gets 100% on a test about his life and books. Unfortunately, Lockhart foolishly sets a mob of Cornish Pixies out into the classroom to 'test' the students abilities. As most of the students make a getaway, Lockhart asks Harry, Ron and Hermione if they could round up the last of them. Luckily, with Hermione being a top-of-the-class witch, she stuns the pixies, making it easier for them to round them up into the cage. In chapter 7, 'Mudbloods and Murmurs', Hermione gets into an argument with Draco Malfoy after a confrontation with the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Draco Malfoy, the newly appointed Slytherin seeker calls Hermione a Mudblood. A mudblood is a foul name for witch or wizard with muggle parents, also known as "muggle-born". After the incident, they venture down to Hagrid's Hut to try and help Ron after his spell backfires and Hagrid cheers her up. Chapter 8,'The Deathday Party', Hermione agrees to accompany Harry and Ron to Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Party. Unfortunately the food isn't quite to the taste of them and they spend most of the time talking to each other and watching ghosts. After they leave the Deathday party, Hermione and Ron follow Harry after he hears 'the voice' again. He leads them to the scene where Mrs Norris, Filch's cat, has been petrified by the Basilisk, currently unknown to them. After stumbling across Mrs Norris, the trio are questioned by the teachers. Dumbledore is reluctant to believe Filch's accusations that Harry did it. After the incident, the whole school starts to talk about the writing on the wall, claiming that the chamber had been reopened. In her History of Magic lesson, Hermione asks Professor Binns about the Chamber of Secrets. After trying to distract everyone from the topic, Professor Binns starts to explain the story of what happened when the Chamber was last opened. Hermione then appears in Chapter 10(The Rogue Bludger) as a spectator in the the Gryffindor/Slytherin match. In this match, Harry is injured by a rogue bludger and Hermione comforts him in the Hospital Wing. Chapter 11 (The Duelling Club), Harry, Ron and Hermione begin to brew the Plyjuice Potion in the abandoned girls bathroom. During Potions class, Harry creates a diversion whilst Hermione steals Boomslang Skin from Professor Snape's store room. After the incident with Harry and the snake at the duelling club, Hermione becomes worried about Harry's gift, Parseltongue.

Chapter 12 (The Polyjucie Potion), upon taking the Polyjuice Potion to infiltrate the Slytherin common room, Hermione obatins some odd cat features from her potion. Unfortunately the hair that she plucked from a robe was a cat hair.

Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban

Hermione first appears outside Fortescue's Ice-cream parlour in Diagon Alley, and starts asking Harry about him blowing up his Aunt. She then decides to get an Owl in Diagon ally, but ends up buying a cat named Crookshanks. On the train to Hogwarts, she explains that the man sleeping in their carriage is, Remus Lupin. When the Dementor arrived on the train, Hermione decided to go and speak with the driver, but got pushed back as Neville and Ginny walked in. Then Lupin woke up, drove back the dementor and Hermione woke up Harry. When Hary was in the hospital wing, Professor McGonagall said that she would have a word with Hermione about her timetables. At the feast, Hermione as overjoyed that Hagrid got the position of COMC teacher.
