Background
Hedwig has no background prior to Hagrid purchasing her.
History
Hedwig is Harry's first ever pet, which was a birthday present from Hagrid. Hedwig is a very smart owl, that has never failed a delivery for Harry. Hedwig doesn't play a big part in the series, but she does deliver things for Harry during the summer, and is his only friend then. In his fifth year, Hedwig gets hurt during a flight to deliver a message to Sirius. Grubby-Plank cures her. In the seventh book, Hedwig dies because of a Killing Curse directed at Harry, but misses.
