Gringotts Wizarding Bank
|Gringotts Wizarding Bank|
|Location||Diagon Alley, London|
Gringotts Wizarding Bank is the magical world's bank, located in Diagon Alley inside a large white building. It is run by goblins. In addition to allowing wizards to make deposits and withdrawals, the bank also exchanges wizarding currency for Muggle money.
According to Rubeus Hagrid, Gringotts is the safest place besides Hogwarts to keep things, and that someone would be mad to try and rob it. However, Gringotts has been broken into twice over the course of the series - once in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (though the vault in question was already empty at the time), and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger successfully stole a Horcrux from Bellatrix Lestrange's vault.
A Goblin named Gringott created the bank, and only employed Goblins to work there. However when the two wizarding wars were taking place, The Ministry took over the bank. But after the wars the Goblins took over again.
