Background

Godric Gryffindor was one of the original four founders of Hogwarts. Gryffindor Selected students for his house depending on their bravery and courage. He was originally close friends with Salazar Slytherin, although their friendship fell over time. Gryffindor was the founder most in favour of allowing Muggle-Born children into the school, possibly the one most reasonable for Slytherin's departure.
