Gryffindor Quidditch team (Chaser) (temporarily)
Dean Thomas is a fictional character from the Harry Potter Universe.
Dean Thomas is a half-blood wizard who was in the same year as Harry Potter. He was sorted into Gryffindor House and temporarily played as Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team. He is close friends with Seamus Finnigan and had a relationship with Ginny Weasley from his late fifth and early sixth year. His father was a wizard and his mother a Muggle, thus his blood. His father left Dean and his mother, but his mother, however, married another man and had many children, giving Dean several half-siblings. In his fifth year, Dean joined Dumbledore's Army.
 The Philosopher's Stone
Dean Thomas was entering his first year into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the first book. He was sorted into Gryffindor House during the Welcoming Feast and shared a dorm room with fellow Gryffindor first years Seamus Finnigan, who he became extremely close with, Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley, all of which he became good friends with. Dean had only discovered Quidditch when he arrived at Hogwarts, but was a proud supporter of the Gryffindor Quidditch team, and being creative, drew a large banner with a lion on it; with Hermione Granger's enchantment on it, it changed colors throughout the game.
 The Chamber of Secrets
Dean returned for his second year at Hogwarts in the second book. Just like the previous year, he shared a dorm with Seamus Finnigan, Neville Longbottom, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. He also joined the Duelling Club, as well as many others, which was led by the current Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, Gilderoy Lockhart. This was the year that the Chamber had opened, and not unlike many others, Dean made several speculations about the Heir of Slytherin, and being believed to be Muggle-born, some thought he would be targeted. In History of Magic class, he was about to make a correct prediction about the Heir of Slytherin but was cut off by Professor Binns.
 The Prisoner of Azkaban
In the third book, Dean would be entering his third year. Being in his third year, he would be allowed into Hogsmeade, which meant most likely his mother had signed his permission slip for him. Dean chose Care of Magical Creatures as an elective class as well as Divination. In one class of Care of Magical Creatures, when Hagrid introduced the hippogriff Buckbeak, he seemed reluctant to go near it. In one Divination class, he explained what a grim was to the class.
 The Goblet of Fire
During Dean's fourth year, Hogwarts held the Triwizard Tournament, in which Harry's name was entered into the Goblet of Fire despite being underage and made a fourth champion. Nonetheless, Dean and several other Gryffindors supported Harry throughout the Tournament. It is unknown who he attended the Yule Ball with.
 The Order of Phoenix
In his fifth year, there were many speculations about Harry Potter's claiming that Voldemort had returned. He, unlike best friend Seamus, believed that He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named was indeed back and claimed that since his mother was Muggle-born, she did not read the Daily Prophet. Dean, along with many others, did not appreciate Dolores Umbridge, new High Inquisitor and Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, and argued with her about half-breeds. He did not seem happy that she insulted their two previous Defense Against the Dark Arts teachers, whom Dean claimed that they learned very much from. He would also join Dumbledore's Army. After discovering about the DA, Umbridge caused all members written on the list of Dumbledore's Army to write sentences with a Blood Quill. Late that year, Dean Thomas would begin a relationship with Ginny Weasley.
 The Half-Blood Prince
Dean's relationship with Ginny Weasley continued through his early sixth year. However, Ginny began to develop a crush on Harry Potter once again and had many rows with Dean. She was angry at him for laughing when Harry was hit by a Bludger during a Quidditch match. When Harry was also exiting the portrait hole of the Gryffindor common room, he was beneath his invisibility cloak and had drunk the Felix Felicis. He accidentally bumped into Ginny, who was incensed because she thought it was Dean who bumped into her, thus the end of their relationship. Dean was shocked after seeing that Harry and Ginny would start a relationship so soon after Ginny broke up with him, but nonetheless didn't seem to mind them being together.
