 Synopsis
November has arrived, bringing with it some truly unpleasant weather. The relationship between Hermione, Harry and Ron has blossomed into a very close bond. The quidditch season has begun and Harry spends a lot of time training with the rest of the Gryffindor team: keeper Wood, beaters Fred and George and chasers Angelina Johnson, Katie Bell and Alicia Spinnett. Hermione lends Harry a library book on Quidditch so that he can become more accustomed to the sport but vindictive Professor Snape confiscates it. That night, Harry reports to the staff room in order to have the book returned and witnesses Snape putting bandages on a terrible wound in his leg. Harry realises that it is a bite from the three-headed dog and suspects Snape of trying to thief whatever was being guarded beneath the trap door.
These suspicions are intensified during Harrys much-awaited Quidditch debut against Slytherin. Harrys broom goes out of control and he nearly falls off. Ron and Hermione, watching from the stands, spot fellow spectator Snape mumbling incantations under his breath, so Hermione rushes over to distract him. On her way, she crashes into Quirrell, who also was nearby. Harry is able to climb back onto his broom and goes on to catch the snitch, thus winning the match.
After a quick celebration, Harry, Ron and Hermione talk to Hagrid about their suspicions but are told that they are wrong and that Snape would never do such a thing. They also admit to knowing about the dog, something that Hagrid is surprised to hear. He accidentally lets slip that the dog is there to guard an item belonging to a man named Nicholas Flamel, which Dumbledore has offered to protect. Realising that he has given too much away, Hagrid refuses to elaborate further.
